 Countdown on to Eales’ visit

Countdown on to Eales’ visit

03 Feb, 2010 04:02 PM
Justin Sampson who is Master of Ceremonies for the ‘Luncheon with The Legend’ on Thursday, February 18, rang during the week to ascertain how preparations were progressing for the big day.

Justin advised he had just gotten off the phone to the former Australian Wallaby captain and said “the big fellow was really looking forward to a day out in Cobar to meet the people and to inspect the rugby oval and clubhouse about which he had heard so much”.

Justin will be flying in with John Eales and is rapt to be a part of such a huge day in his home town. He is giving his time which involves travelling from Melbourne where he now centres his business activities.

Justin said Cobar would love this bloke.

“John is internationally acclaimed as the greatest Wallaby in the history of the game in Australia, he is a polished public speaker of the highest order and is an absolute gentleman; and at all times nothing is too much trouble,’’ he said.

“He will have a yarn to anybody and if you want anything signed, just ask him.’’

Eight months ago I wrote to John Eales and asked if he would consider a visit to Cobar and the Cobar Rugby Union Club to give bush rugby a shot in the arm.

Some days later he rang back and said he was extremely busy and had very young family to consider but he would see what he could do mid-February of 2010.

John Eales could be sipping lattes with George Gregan or David Campese in Sydney, playing a lazy 18 holes at St Ives or even spending a bit of quality time with the wife and kids on February 18 but no, he too is giving his time to visit Cobar.
