Roosters show their potency

24 Jun, 2009 05:18 PM
Cobar Junior Rugby League Club hosted visits to Tom Knight Oval last Saturday by Dubbo teams Eastridge and St John’s.

Eastridge won both the under-13 and under-9 matches while Cobar’s Tony Ellison-coached under-15s recorded one of their best victories of the season.

Both the under-13 and under-15 games were refereed by Jason Toomey while the voice behind the microphone was league-stalwart Tom Good.

Under 15 Cobar Roosters 60 defeated St John’s 4

After several weeks of disruptions with injuries and representative commitments the Cobar under-15s took to the field with a full side and showed how potent they can be with a 60-4 win over St John’s.

The young Roosters went on a 12 try to 1 scoring rampage which St John’s found impossible to put a hold on, no matter what they tried.

The small but highly mobile forward pack dominated from the start and kept the intensity throughout the entire game.

Smart ball plays from the pivot Jim Delboux around the ruck area put the forwards through holes time and time again.

The long-striding Tom Sellick crossed for a double, Kahleb Whitehurst with his usual play scored a try and Alec Burton was rewarded with a try.

The backline scored at will and left defenders dumbfounded with a vast array of slight of hand moves.

The magician, Wade Potter, made a mockery of the St John’s defensive line slotting centre Dave Watson and Macauley Dawson and Clinton Everett through for nine tries between them.

Defence was another high-class aspect of their game, gang tackles and bone crunching hits aplenty with Alec Burton, Ethan Dunlevy, David Watson, Wade Potter and Jim Delboux showing the St John’s boys there was nowhere to go.

Under-13 Eastridge 100 defeated Cobar 0

Seven under-13s - Jacob Good, Jesse Betcke, Braydan Pennell, Jock Beazley, Alex Madden, Travis Andrew - and three under-11s - Ethen Bereyne, Will Crotty and Jay Ellison - helped to form a 10-player team to take on the might of last year’s premiers Eastridge.

All the boys played well above their weight, height and size as well as with courage and spirit – these young men were a real credit to themselves, their families, the game and the club.

The score was a 100 to nil blow out but the commitment to the game and to the club is the stuff legends are made of.

If you see any of these heroes, be sure to pat them on the back and thank them, as they’ve done this town proud.

Guru.

Under-9 (non competitive) Eastridge 6 tries defeated Cobar 2.

Both tries for Cobar were scored by Padriac Ireland.
