Cobar Rugby Club Camel’s kick-off their 2012 Western Plains season with a trip to Warren’s Victoria Park Oval on April 28.

After overpowering the lowly-ranked Pumas, the Camels then host a Round 2 visit to Ailsa Fitzsimmons Oval by 2011 premiers Coonamble.

The May 5 clash with Coonamble is followed by consecutive home games against archrivals Nyngan and the Gulargambone Tri-colours.

Cobar’s next away game is scheduled for May 26 at Walgett.

After the Ram’s match, Brewarrina’s Brumbies at home will then provide a strong challenge for the travelling Camels.

A bye is scheduled for the June long weekend (June 9) with the Cobar/Bourke clash at Bourke’s Davidson Oval listed for June 16.

LEAGUE

The Cobar Roosters will host the Wellington Cowboys at Tome Knight Memorial Oval in this year’s opening round of the Group 11 Rugby League competition.

A draft 2012 draw released last week will be presented for confirmation to the next Group 11 meeting scheduled for February 11 at Narromine.

If confirmed the opening competition games on April 29 will follow two rounds of pre-season matches listed for the weekends of April 14 and 15 and April 21 and 22.

Nyngan’s Larkin Oval is the venue for the pre-season Round 1 clash between the home-town Tigers and the visiting Cobar Roosters.

On the following weekend Dubbo CYMS will make the long trip west to challenge the Cobar Roosters at Tom Knight Oval.

Group 11 secretary Bob Walsh said this weekend’s meeting at Narromine will confirm both the 2012 pre-season and competition draws.

Walsh also confirmed the Group 11 U/18’s selection trials will be held at Narromine on Saturday February 25, with Wellington set to host the Western Rams U/18’s trials on Saturday March 17.

BREWERY SHIELD CRICKET

The Cobar Bowling and Golf Club Cowboys senior representative cricket team continue their 2012 Brewery Shield campaign when they play Gilgandra at Gilgandra this Sunday.

The team selected for the match is as follows:-

Phil Harley (Captain), Jake Harbison, Clay Neale, Craig Dillon, Matt Nicholson, Stephen Nicholson, Damien Harbison, Wade Potter, Luke Hillier, Mal Hillier, Rob Mitchell and David Watson.

Travel arrangements will be advised to players later in the week.

Golden Oldies

The winners of the game of Golden Oldies bowls played on Wednesday February 1, 2012 were Dick Roberts and Joe Chandler, while Ron Hanns and Reg Whitla were the runners-up.

Saturday twilight bowls

A game of social twilight bowls was played on Saturday, February 4.The winners of the night were Ron Hanns, Reg Whitla and Marge Dowling, while Paddy Phillips, Cath Benn and Anne Williams were the runners-up.
