Week-four matches in the first round of the local Cobar senior cricket competition were played last Saturday with Golf Club making the trip to Nymagee and Ox Colts taking on Atlas Copco/Golfy 2 on the turf wicket at Ward Oval.
In the match out at Nymagee, Golf Club won the toss and batted first. After losing their first three wickets for 24, Golf Club batsmen John Hausia 43 and Craig Milne 11 put on a partnership of 54 to take the score on to 78.
However, the loss of four quick wickets had Golf Club’s score at seven for 92 before Scott Toomey 35 and Matt Crotty 20 not out took the score onto 141. The last three wickets fell for 17 and Golf Club was all out for 158 from 38 overs.
Best bowling for Nymagee was Phil Harley with five for 35 and other wicket-takers were Mitch Shields one for five, Matt Russell one for 14, Baden Smith one for 19, Wade Smith one for 19 and Doug North one for 23.
The Nymagee batsmen made short work of the run chase, finishing at two for 160 off only 20 overs. Jade Buckman top scored with 61 not out and was ably supported by Craig Dillon 33, Roger Mitchell 29 and Matt Nicholson 24 not out.
Wicket-takers for Golf Club were Jason Milne one for 38 and John Hausia one for 43.
Atlas Copco/Golfy 2 captain Jake Harbison won the toss and decided to bat first on a wicket that was slightly wet under the surface. After losing their first three wickets for only 19 runs Atlas Copco/Golfy 2 middle- order batsman dug in against some good line and length bowling form the Ox Colts’ bowling attack. They were eventually all out for 145 from 43 overs. Rob Childs top scored with 31 and was supported by Robbie Mitchell 24, Damien Harbison 24, Bryan Manns 21 and Rhys Power 12.
Craig Tanke was the best of the Ox Colts bowlers, taking five for 26 from his 10 overs. Other wicket-takers were Dan Howard with two for 10 from seven overs, David Watson one for 25, Stewart Fraser one for 33 and Luke Hillier one for one.
After a break for tea and for darkness to set in the Ox Colts began their innings under lights.
Openers Stewart Fraser 17 and Dan Howard 12 started confidently but were both dismissed in quick succession by Damien Harbison. From this point wickets fell at regular intervals with only Greg Brown, who top scored with 34, looking comfortable against the good bowling attack.
A last-wicket partnership of over 20 from Jayde Townsend 12 and Luke Hillier four not out took the Ox Colts’ score to 119 from 36.5 overs, but falling short of their target.
Best bowling figures for Atlas Copco 1/Golfy 2 were Wade McLachlan thee for 15, Raymond Ebsworth two for 11, Justin Richardson two for 13, Damien Harbison two for 27 and Rob Childs one for 15.
