A cold and windy day made for two low-scoring cricket games with Atlas/Copco having a good win over Golf Club and Nymagee accounting for Colts out at Nymagee.
It was the Harbison show at No. 3 Oval between Golf Club and Atlas/Copco where the two boys scored well over half the team’s runs and took most of the wickets!
Golf Club gave away 37 sundries in the Atlas/Copco team score of 158 and the rest of the team only scored 28 runs between them.
Damien enjoys the No. 3 Oval where he clears the fence easily and hit two sixes in his innings of 68 while brother Jake made 25.
For Golf Club, Andrew Buckman backed up from his good bowling last week to pick up 3/33 and Jason Toomey, enjoying the slower No. 3 Oval more than Nymagee Oval took 3/27 and Jada Townsend took two good catches.
When it came their turn to bat, Golf Club could only muster 77 in reply.
Steve Manns celebrated his 50th birthday in positive fashion by opening the batting. However the celebrations were short-lived when he was out for a duck.
Blake Collins top-scored with 22 not out and Andrew Buckman was the only other batsman to make double figures scored 12.
Jake Harbison took 4/12 and Damien 4/29. So it was an easy win for Atlas/Copco on a cold and windy day.
Out at Nymagee the weather wasn’t any better than Cobar and a short game resulted with Nymagee having an easy win over Colts and the match all over by lunch.
Colts batted first and although maintaining a good scoring rate, were losing wickets at an even faster rate. Three times during the Colts innings a batsman was facing a hat-trick.
Stewart Fraser batted well before being skittled by Phil Harley for 35. Steve Nicholson scored 11 and Alex Fraser hit five fours in his score of 20 not out.
Harley took 4/27, John Potter 2/22 and Doug North 2/4.
Craig Dillon’s one over cost 13 runs and helped the Colts good early run rate.
The two Mitchell boys Roger and Greg opened the batting and ensured the game would be over by lunch by scoring quickly.
Nymagee managed to lose six wickets chasing the GW Colts score of 94 but the game was never in doubt.
Alex Fraser 2/18, Mark Fraser 2/18 and Jodie Fraser 1/15 took five of the six wickets to fall and Slade Neale picked up the big wicket of John Potter by uprooting his middle stump.
Greg Mitchell top-scored for Nymagee with 24. Baden Smith made 21, Brendan Rodda 15 not out and Roger Mitchell 14.
Unfortunately for GW Colts they were unable to field a full team for the second week in a row.
Next week Nymagee will be keen to win the Oldfield Cup back off RSL who will be defending it for the first time in a long time on No.1 Oval and Atlas/Copco will play Colts on No.2.
