Cobar has produced some outstanding sportsmen and women, and young rising star - and now Cobar Sportsperson of the Year - cricketer Wade Potter is continuing the proud tradition.

His great-grandfather John Potter, grandfather Ernie and father Geoff have all created a great history for local cricket.

Fifteen-year-old Wade, his nominee said, had made an outstanding contribution to senior and junior representative cricket and acquitted himself against more experienced players.

He had been selected in the senior cricket teams for Macquarie Valley, Country Plate and Brewery Shield.

Cobar’s Country Plate team finished runner-up in the prestigious Statewide competition while the Brewery Shield is still being contested.

Wade also represented at NSW swimming and

cross- country championships and is a renowned player of junior rugby league, basketball, mixed netball, soccer and athletics.

Other sporting achievers nominated for the Sportsperson Award were Grace Power (netball),

Scott Griffith (sheep dog

trials) and members of the Yabbies swimming club

(for their performance at

the National AIF championships).
