Four staff from Cobar Shire Council spent three days with their counterparts at the City of Canterbury last week as part of the partnership between the two councils.
According to Council’s special projects officer, Angela Shepherd the exchange proved an invaluable learning experience with staff also identifying a number of cost-saving measures available to council.
“With over 90 parks and gardens, Canterbury staff were able to share ideas on the latest irrigation systems, spraying techniques and requirements for play equipment and soft-fall areas,” Ms Shepherd said.
“Canterbury also boasts extensive records and human resources departments which have undergone a number of upgrades in recent years and Canterbury staff shared their experiences with our staff.
“The use of an electronic document management system was explored, HR and related policies shared and many tips from experienced staff gained.
“Projects focused on youth initiatives, town centre upgrades and social programs were discussed.
“It was a very busy week for everyone but a most worthwhile experience.
“Hopefully it is the first of further staff and community exchanges to come.
“It is anticipated that Canterbury staff and community members will visit Cobar in April 2008 to further projects and set up new ones.’’
