Cobar shire finance and policy committee has accepted Alix Schaefer’s proposal to reopen the Town Hall cinema.
In addition to movies Alix intends to provide arcade machines and snacks.
“I’m very excited about being a new entrepreneur and doing something that I’ve always wanted to do,” Alix said.
Several have raised their eyebrows about someone who is only 18 years of age being involved with such a large undertaking but he seems undaunted.
“I’ve had lots of support from my family, and I’ve been working with Mark Workman, the enterprise facilitator. He’s been great – he keeps me on the right path.”
Alix is referring to Mark Workman, who is the only paid person in a local grassroots economic development project. - the Cobar Enterprise Facilitation.
His role is to work with new and existing businesses, helping them find the gaps in their abilities and filling those gaps with people who can help the entrepreneur succeed.
He uses the model taught to him by CEO of Sirolli Institute, Dr Ernesto Sirolli.
A firm date has not been established yet for the opening of the cinema, but Alix and the council would like it to be before the school holidays.
If anyone thinks they have a business idea, or would like to talk with Mark about their current business, his free and confidential business coaching are available by calling 0417 573 333.
