Region’s diversity shown by excellence of business

14 Oct, 2009 12:55 PM
Last Saturday evening’s business awards dinner in Cobar was a fitting finale to the 2009 Orana Regional Business Excellence Awards, attracting more than 100 business people from across the vast region to celebrate their hard work and the diversity of the region, major sponsor Country Energy announced on Monday.

Narromine business Edgerton Nursery came away with the honour as the Most Outstanding Regional Business chosen ahead of 51 other finalist across nine categories.

Country Energy’s regional general manager north western, Pete Halliwell, was on hand at the Cobar Bowling and Golf Club’s function room to congratulate all the category winners including Wendy Robinson and Lee-Ann Shields of Stationery Essentials, and runner-up Colleen Flynn and Sarah Cryer of Cobar Quilt Shop in the Retail/Personal Services Award.

“It was a wonderful evening, it’s not often you have business people from so many different towns in one room,” Mr Halliwell said.

“The night captured what the awards program is all about, to celebrate industry excellence, business diversification and the strong community spirit of the region.

“We have been involved in these awards for the last eight years as Country Energy have always encouraged regional development and jobs growth, and supporting these awards gives us an opportunity to

promote businesses that are servicing a wide spread

population of over 100,000 people.”

Capturing 11 local government areas the Orana region represents an area with a diverse business community that faces dynamic challenges.
